summer summer summer!

The summer of 2021 is almost over and it has flown by fast. We had a fairly mild spring and early summer, mid summer it was about normal, maybe not as hot but the last part of summer has been dry, dry, dry. I’ve seriously considered putting the sprinkler on the pasture for the horses., wait a second, I actually did that. I’ll try and post video of one of our horses messing with the sprinkler, lol. We are so excited that we have also had a few new people and horses join up with us! Ginny brought Ranger and Lilly to live here. They are great horses, not to mention their owner. πŸ™‚

Exciting happenings…

This spring was a great one! Mowing has started in earnest so we’ll be spending every spare moment mowing, lol. It feels like it anyway. I love this time of year though, we finally can get outside. The horses are busy shedding off their old winter coat and growing into their new summer shinny ones. The most recent exciting news at the stable is that we have a new pretty face around here with her horse that calls us home: welcome Kami and Lady. We are so excited to see all you’re going to accomplish in the horse world!!

It’s “that” time of year!

Beautiful good man Finn is demonstrating “THAT” time of year is the time the old (hair that is) is gone and the new (hair that is) is come! In just a few weeks all the horses will shed that old dull dying winter hair and show their new glossy summer coats. Sometimes I wish we all had a set yearly season to do away with the old non-producing things in our lives so we can move into the new growth that is yet to come.

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily besetΒ us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1

Seasons of the moon

I just love this time of year! There is new life is all around us! You can’t tell it, but the waxing crescent moon in my picture was bright orange, it was breathtaking! The Jews say, about the moon, this time of year: β€œYou are a crown of glory for those who are borne in the womb, for they, like you, are destined to be renewed.” I am thankful for renewal and new life as I’m sure we all are.

Happy riding, spring is upon us!! πŸ™‚

Cleaning up

Now that we have thawed out it’s time to clean up. Some of our horses were allowed into the indoor arena to have shelter from the snow and cold. They made a mess of things. I think they had a ball running around and tearing things up! Lyera came and helped us clean up the mess….7 wheelbarrow loads full of it. Whew!

thawing out

Who’s ready for the warmer temperatures? I sure am. We have finally made it though this cold spell and maybe even through the last bit of a cold and snowy winter. Some pipes are still frozen but I expect today they will thaw out, and we will rejoice in not hauling water 3 times a day! A few days ago, our area of the country, just barely missed the all time record low by 3 degrees. the sun and warmer temps have never felt so good. Keep warm you-all!

Winter at the Stables

This year has been a bit different than last year. So far, it has not been very cold so we are still doing lessons; however, next week the cold fountain is turning on! I hope it will only be for a few days. Summer is almost upon us….

Winter

Sugar in the frost

The winter water issue….

Everyone loves the winter.  The  fresh smelling air, cold breezes and snow, yes snow is what makes winter, winter.  I hate to be a party pooper but I don’t love winter.  Winter is beautiful, I’ll give you that, but the cold and snow make it so much harder to get things done here at the stables.  Take water for example,  some of our stock tanks have water heaters in them.  An extension cord is run from a nearby outlet to power the heaters which keep the water from freezing in the tanks, albeit at a cost of  up to $4 a day, but they do work.  The picture below is of a tank with a heater in it.  In some of the other stock tanks, it is not feasible to run a extension cord out to, we have to break the ice as it forms on the top of the water so the horses can drink water; sometimes as many as 5 times a day!  This is one of the hardest things keep on top of.  Who wants to go outside that many times a day when it is 13 degrees out with winds?  I think I like winter from  inside of my house!  πŸ™‚

Waiting for warmer days….
